Hi, I’m Katerina Belik, a professional educator with over 28 years of teaching experience.
My educational journey began when I earned my PhD in Russia at the age of 24 and embarked on my first teaching position at my alma mater. Life took an exciting turn when my family and I immigrated to the United States in 2001.
I eagerly embraced the opportunity to teach English Language Arts (ELA) in an urban middle school within the Houston Independent School District but soon realized that I had signed up for a rough ride.
It wasn’t easy but things turned around. One year later, I was entrusted to lead a small learning community at the same school. Life demanded more professional development, and for the next 7 years of teaching I kept expanding my expertise in all areas I considered necessary. As a result, I become certified in teaching English Language Arts, General Education, English as a Second Language, Special Education, School Counseling, and School Administration.
Challenges were changed by rewards, and the ELA Department that I led in my school achieved historic highs in reading and writing for three consecutive years.
